In a surprising move, the Right Honorable Denys Tezdzhanenko, Federal Prime Minister has submitted a letter of resignation to the Life President on his own behalf and on behalf of the Government.
Citing as reasons for his decision, Monsieur Tezdzhanenko mentioned “failure of even a single member of said groups” (Government and Diplomatic Corps) to reply to his notice which was privately distributed on Tuesday among the Lostislandic officials. The Prime Minister has also requested the disavowment of the members of the Diplomatic Corps and the calling of an early election.
The Presidential response in form of a Decree officialized the resignation request, sacking the government and appointing its ex-members, including the now former Prime Minister, as Acting Ministers. The Life President has also honored the request to disavow Diplomatic Corps, dismissing the Lostislandic Ambassadors from their positions, and appointed a date for the early election of Prime Minister, which is now set to take place on 18 April 2018 – the Unification Day, commemorating the unification of Lostisland and Pavlov in 2013 – instead March 2019 as was originally expected. The Decree has also given a formal start to the electoral campaign, giving prospective candidates for Head of Government until 4 April to confirm their intention to participate. The now Acting Prime Minister Denys Tezdzhanenko is expected to run seeking his third term, as he had previously confirmed in his exclusive interview. Earlier this week, an opinion poll conducted among the Lostislandic citizens showed 81.8% of respondents willing to vote for Monsieur Tezdzhanenko on the next election. It is expected that more candidates will register and more details about the election will become available soon after.
Prime Minister Denys Tezdhanenko had in the past resigned in May 2013, during his first term amid an internal conflict in the then Federation of Pavlov (now Belastrova), but returned to the office in February 2015, after winning the election.
The inauguration of Prime Minister Elect will take place on 7 May 2018.
