The Right Honorable Denys Tezdzhanenko, Acting Prime Minister of Lostisland has confirmed in the Lostislandic Facebook group that the Lostislandic President Yaroslav Mar is a fictional character, and that Lostisland itself is but an experiment in social engineering.
Earlier today, a Facebook post by “Yaroslav Mar” announced the end of a longtime social engineering experiment, which this identity was used for. The post’s authors, signed as “Salman, Muhammad, Ahmed, Ismail, Abdul, Ibrahim, Farooq” admitted to have been managing all the internet activity of “Yaroslav Mar” as part of their work for the Faisalabad Institute of Research, Science and Technology (FIRST) – a Pakistani research and education organization which was conducting the experiment together with their “Russian, American and British colleagues”, among whom the post mentions Cambridge Analytica, a British political consulting firm recently involved in a controversy around misusing personal information for political gain. The post’s authors have also claimed responsibility for the oucomes of the Brexit vote and of Donald Trump’s campaign as part of the experiment.
Concerning the public appearances of the Lostislandic president, which have not been rare, the group has said those were arranged by “skilled and duly trained impersonators in Russia and other European countries”, some of whom even went through plastic surgery to increase resemblance with the original character.
The Federal Republic of Lostisland was mentioned in the post as a part of the experiment, hinting that only a “few selected members of the organization’s leadership were ever made aware of it”. With the Acting Prime Minister however confirming the facts described, the future of Lostisland remains uncertain.
Purported to be a Moscow-born musician, “Yaroslav Mar” has been the keyfigure of Lostisland almost since her foundation in 2008, becoming the Captain Regent of the then Republic of Lostisland in September 2010 and President of an already Federal Republic in the 2013. In his annual speech on the eve of 2015, Yaroslav Mar proclaimed himself the President for Life.
