We are honored to introduce Prof. Aniebiet Inyang Ntui, who has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Lostisland in Nigeria, effective September 8, 2023. Prof. Ntui is a distinguished diplomat and environmentalist with a remarkable record of achievements and a deep commitment to global causes.
Prof. Aniebiet Inyang Ntui is a prominent Nigerian diplomat and environmentalist, renowned for her remarkable contributions to both academia and international relations.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Prof. Ntui serves as the current University Librarian of the University of Calabar, where she holds the distinction of being the third woman in the institution’s 45-year history to hold this prestigious position.
Prof. Ntui’s international diplomatic roles are equally impressive. She has chaired panels and actively participated in high-level international conferences, including the 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference in Montreal, Canada, the 2022 G20 Bali Summit in Indonesia, and the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, among others. Her contributions to global dialogues on critical issues such as climate change and environmental sustainability have earned her recognition and respect on the international stage.
Aniebiet Inyang Ntui possesses a rich academic background, including a Bachelor’s Degree in Botany (Science Education) from the University of Cross River State, Uyo. She has furthered her education with a Diploma in Computer Techniques and Applications from the University of Ibadan, a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Calabar, and a Master’s Degree in Library, Archival, and Information Science from the University of Ibadan. Her academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Uyo.
Prof. Ntui’s career extends beyond the academic realm. She has served as a Professor at the University of Calabar, where she has been a key member of the university’s management. Her extensive experience in program management, financial management, fundraising, international relations, and development reflects her dedication to contributing to meaningful change.
Prof. Ntui’s contributions to global health, environmental science, and international research initiatives are noteworthy. She is actively involved in various working groups, including the C7’s Global Health Working Group, the Gender & Health Sub-Working Group, the C7’s Climate and Environmental Justice Working Group, and P20’s Climate and Environment Policy Working Group. Her involvement in these initiatives underscores her commitment to addressing pressing global challenges.
As an advocate for sustainable practices, equitable resource distribution, and global health initiatives, Prof. Ntui has provided valuable recommendations on the international stage. Her role as a Member of the UN CBD Women’s Caucus led to a historic moment during the 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference, where gender equality became a stand-alone target in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework for the first time. As a member of the Civil 7 Engagement Group, Aniebiet Ntui provided valuable recommendations to the 2023 Japanese Presidency of the G7. Her recommendations emphasized the need for sustainable practices, equitable distribution of resources, and the prioritization of global health initiatives.
In December 2022, Prof. Aniebiet Inyang Ntui was appointed as the Ambassador of the EU’s European Climate Pact, an initiative supporting the implementation of the European Green Deal. European Climate Pact Ambassadors inform, inspire, and support climate policy and action in their communities and networks, reflecting her commitment to combating climate change.
In June 2023, Prof. Ntui engaged in a high-level meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, addressing the environmental impact of the Destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, a part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This meeting included prominent figures such as Vice-President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala, environmental activist Greta Thunberg, and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström.
