In an era where climate change poses an existential threat to our planet, international cooperation has never been more critical.
The Federal Republic of Lostisland and Climate Justice Advocacy, Kampala-Uganda have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework of cooperation to achieve their shared goals of climate action and environmental justice.
Climate Justice Advocacy, Kampala-Uganda is a youth-led grassroots movement that seeks to ensure that all people have the opportunity to live in a healthy and sustainable environment. The organization raises public awareness of the negative impacts of climate change on vulnerable and marginalized groups, empowers these groups to take lead action in the fight against climate change, and carries out grassroots research to support this goal.
The MoU emphasizes the shared goals of the parties – climate action and environmental justice. Both Lostisland and Climate Justice Advocacy re-committed to combating climate change and ensuring that all individuals, particularly vulnerable and marginalized communities, can live in a healthy and sustainable environment.
Under the MoU which goes into effect on the 4th of October 2023, Lostisland will provide technical support for Climate Justice Advocacy’s bi-monthly webinars, ensuring that vital discussions on climate justice reach a wider audience.
Climate Justice Advocacy, on the other hand, will support Lostisland with knowledge, research, and analysis related to climate justice issues, and support the development and implementation of Lostisland’s policies and initiatives pertaining to youth engagement in climate action.
The MoU also includes provisions for intellectual property rights, confidentiality, dispute resolution, and term and termination.
Climate Justice is the recognition that climate change disproportionately impacts marginalized communities and that those communities who have contributed the least to the problem are often the most affected by its impacts. Climate Justice is the fight to ensure that all people have the opportunity to live in a healthy and sustainable environment, regardless of their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or other identity factors.
Climate Justice is essential to addressing the climate crisis. By working to ensure that all people have a voice in the fight against climate change, climate justice advocates help to create a more just and sustainable world for all.
