UN Day is celebrated on October 24th each year to mark the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter in 1945. The Charter is the founding document of the United Nations and sets out the rights and responsibilities of Member States, as well as the principles that guide the organization’s work.
The United Nations was established in the aftermath of World War II with the goal of preventing future conflicts and promoting peace and security around the world. The organization has played a role in addressing a wide range of global challenges, including poverty, hunger, disease, climate change, and human rights abuses.
On the occasion of UN Day, we take the opportunity to reflect on the role the UN plays in gathering the world’s nations together, despite various challenges and limitations. We also reflect on the organization’s accomplishments and reaffirm our commitment to its ideals.
We celebrate the diversity of the United Nations and its unique ability to bring together people from all over the world to work towards common goals. We are proud to be involved in various UN initiatives and processes, such as the UNFCCC, the HRC, ECOSOC, the CBD, and the OHCHR.
